twenty years....

Saturday April 30th, 2011 was the twenty year wedding anniversary of Kelly and I. I thought I would take a minute and reflect on twenty random things I remember from the last two decades!

1. Kelly surprising me by placing a candy ring in a vending machine, and then proposing with a real one.

2. Two part time minimum wage jobs, two full time students, finishing school with no debt; feeling miraculous and blessed.

3. $.53 cent root beer floats for date night!

4. Needing a tetanus shot before entering, driving or being near our rusted (but free) first car.

5. Watching and not holding a jaundiced baby Ryan under lights for the first ten days of his life.

6. Bright pink carpet in our first house.

7. Nearly taking the hospital hostage to get Josh here. (Warning: don't try to tell a very pregnant mom of a ten pound baby that you've cancelled inductions for the day!)

8. The church nursery banning Ryan until fully supervised by a parent (something about the appropriateness of karate chopping water cups and clotheslining kids).

9. Ryan and Josh's first unsupervised cooking experiment: a gallon of vegetable oil, one bag of potato chips, one clean floor and stocking feet (which move quite quickly when mom screams.I am not sure we ever got all the vegetable oil out of the pink carpet)

10. Pink baby clothes and a future shopping companion!

11. Driving our first "new" car! (it only had 90,000 miles on it and we were thrilled!)

12. Teaching preschool out of our home for five years to help pay for the above mentioned "new" car and loving every minute of it as Ryan and Josh matriculated through.

13. Traveling to San Francisco and Alaska with Kelly on business trips.

14. Appreciating Kelly's carpentry skills in building garages, playhouses, fireplace mantles and whatever "honey do" project his wife has had over the years.

15. Mark arriving as the caboose of our family.

16. Sitting alone in church for many years with young noisy children while a sympathetic husband looked on from the stand. I remember one particular instance when Cassie yelled "daddy help me! to a quiet crowd as I took her mischievous little self out to the foyer)

17. Moving back to Utah County and building a home.

18. Teenagers, driving and dating, oh my!!

19. Shoes, chocolate and discount shopping therapy (especially fun with a girlie girl daughter!)

20. A loving husband who without complaint or criticism stood by to support and help me through all the ups and downs of the last twenty years.

Happy Anniversary Kelly! Looking forward to the next 20 years and beyond.

I didn't know you taught preschool from home. I learned something new about you today. Happy 20th Anniversary. Aren't we lucky?

Happy late anniversary! You forgot Kelly's dream about laying Pergo for a living. :) Congratulations you two! Enjoy your Mexican vacation. You've earned it!

Love them! I especially love number 8. Hey was the pink carpet in our old neighborhood? We had bright pink carpet there too, along with bright blue and a dusty green.

Happy anniversary!
